SASKATOON — Saskatchewan’s office of the chief coroner has ruled that the drowning death of a five-year-old boy last fall in Saskatoon was accidental. Kindergarten student Ahmedsadiq Hussein Elmmi was found in a pond in a park near Ecole Dundonald School on Sept. 11 after morning recess. The coroner’s office is also recommending increased water safety education as well as additional barriers around ponds near schools. Saskatoon Public Schools planned to release an internal report into Elmmi’s death later Wednesday before holding a news conference. It was built four years before the school in 1983 to catch storm water and was converted to a pond in 2005.
