Polyfest to see tens of thousands celebrate culture in south AucklandKymberlee Fernandes / Stuff In the lead up to Polyfest 2018, community leaders give students an insight into leadership and taking ownership of the largest Māori and Pacific Island festival in the world. With 252 performing groups from 69 schools entered, the festival of traditional song, dance and speech is expected to see 10,000 secondary school students take the stage in south Auckland. Lawrence Smith Communities from across Auckland come together to celebrate Polyfest in south Auckland. He says he was a student at Polyfest himself when he came up with his school Tokoroa High in the late 80s. His advice to performers is: "Remember to enjoy the day, be proud of your culture, take the opportunity at Polyfest to learn about cultures other than your own and celebrate your hard work."
