Poll shows majority of Kiwis support Kermadec ocean sanctuaryMALCOLM FRANCIS/FAIRFAX NZ WWF argue that public sentiment backs the establishment of one of the world's largest ocean sanctuaries in the Kermadec region. A new poll shows a majority of Kiwis support the Government plan to set up an ocean sanctuary in the Kermadec region. The first reading of Environment Minister Nick Smith's Kermadec Ocean Sanctuary Bill had unanimous support in March. Maori Party co-leader Marama Fox said it was their policy to advocate for the sustainable use of oceans and they supported "the notion of sanctuaries". Polling also found that for those who identified as Maori, 86 per cent were in support.
