Poll: Most Pinoys believe US will defend PHBy RALPH VILLANUEVAhome/News/Top Stories/Poll: Most Pinoys believe US will defend PHMORE than 6 of 10 Filipinos believe that the United States will defend the Philippines in case a foreign country will try to invade it, a survey by Social Weather Stations (SWS) found. By class, it was highest in class ABC at 51 percent, followed by class D at 49 percent and class E at 34 percent. The SWS survey also found that 47 percent of Filipinos were aware of the Mutual Defense Treaty. Signed in 1951, which called on the US and the Philippines to support each other if either one was attacked. Among those aware of the agreement before the survey, 80 percent believed that the US would defend the country when the Philippines faces invasion.
