Various political developments took place around Kolkata on Monday as the city began preparations for the seventh and last phase of polling on May 19. Tension started mounting as BJP president Amit Shah’s meeting was cancelled in South 24 Parganas. The owner of the field where the meeting was supposed to take place withdrew the permission after which the district administration did the same. BJP’s Jadavpur candidate Anupam Hazra said the Trinamool Congress “pressured [the field’s owner] to cancel the permission and that is nothing new”. Mr. Shah, who attended two meetings in south Bengal, targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhisekh Banerjee over the denial of permission.
