As 2018 comes to a close, early reports indicate it’s been a positive year for the book publishing industry. While final tallies aren’t yet available, book sales in the United Staes in October 2018 were up 7.2% to $699 million, from the October 2017 total of $649 million, as reported by Publishers Weekly. Quartz noted a spike in UK book sales this year of the equivalent of $28 million. Fazio attributed much of that growth to the store’s e-commerce site, justtherightbook.com, which showed a 22% sales increase in 2018. Sarah Costello, Marketing and Publicity Manager for Washington, DC’s Politics and Prose, said that while final sales figures weren’t yet available, the store’s total sales did increase in 2018.
