Kangema deputy county commissioner Agnes Kaloki said one of the assistant chiefs is in police custody and that detectives are looking for the other two suspects. Locals became suspicious when they saw the Form Three girl in the company of the policeman and the two assistant chiefs going into the forest. The officer is said to have convinced the girl that she had no reason to worry because he was in the company of assistant chiefs who were well known to the girl. On learning about the incident, villagers attacked the trio and two managed to escape.
