ALOR SETAR: A 53-year-old cop was sentenced to 20 months’ jail and fined RM20,000 for soliciting and accepting a bribe of RM200. Sjn Azahar Abdul Aziz, who committed the offences while he was with the Kulim Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, needs to serve only 10 months as the court ordered the sentences to be served concurrently from yesterday. Judge Zanol Rashid Hussain fixed a fine of RM10,000 or 100 days in jail for each of the charges. In passing sentence, he said the defence had failed to raise any reasonable doubt on the cases. He faced a second charge of receiving the RM200 from the same individual on the same day.
