A Dunedin police officer is warning of a telephone scam involving callers claiming to work for Spark NZ. Police say the scammers are making cold calls saying they work for the telecommunication company, and then requesting people's bank account details. Recent phone calls have originated from Australia (0061) and the United Kingdom (0044). Dunedin Senior Sergeant Graeme Evans said anyone suspecting a scam call should not engage with anyone over the phone, and hang up immediately. Anyone who believes they are a victim of a scam should immediately report it to their bank, and then to their local police.
