Police in St. John's took a 17-year-old male into custody Saturday night, following an incident in a downtown home. Around 9:30 p.m., Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers encountered the teen, who was brandishing an edged weapon. The officers disarmed the boy by using pepper spray. The accused faces pending charges of uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death, assault, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, and breach of court orders. Police say he was held in custody for an appearance in youth court.
