Police, students clash during protest in Osun


Some residents told our correspondent that some of the students attacked the policemen deployed to the scene and the policemen started firing tear gas canisters to disperse them. Some of the students from the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree told our correspondent that the school increased their fees from N34,000 to N65,000. The Deputy Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students in the South West, Saheed Afolabi, when contacted confirmed the shooting of the two students. He said this in a statement issued to react to the protest which forced shops to close down temporarily while the clash between policemen and the students lasted. “As at today, the tuition fees of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree and the College of Technology, Esa Oke remain N25, 000 while that of Osun State College of Education, Ilesa and Ila-Orangun is still N20, 000.
