According to eyewitness accounts, a complaint was lodged at the Daboya Police station in the early hours of Tuesday claiming that the deceased, who stayed with his aged mother, threatened to kill her. He then pursued the officers until one of them, Tidoro Mohammed, fell to the ground and was allegedly stabbed by the deceased before a team of police reinforcement shot and killed him. Meanwhile, the wounded officer is said to be receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital in the Northern Region, the same facility the body of the deceased is being kept. The Savannah Regional Police Command is yet to issue a statement on the incident.
