The State alleges that Mr Zakariya Kamal Sufi Abashiek bought military equipment from China on behalf of Al Shabaab and facilitated its shipment to Somalia. Mr Kamal is now facing charges of belonging to a terrorist organisation and providing property for the commission of terrorist acts. However, Mr Kamal has denied the allegations, claiming that the state had not provided any evidence that he was a member of any terrorist organisation. Mr Kamal said he had informed the ATPU about the threats, which have since stopped.
