An airport-based police officer allowed a mother to leave the country with her son despite a border alert issued by the courts. While waiting for police the mother showed the Customs officer text messages from her lawyer, suggesting she was able to leave. The Customs officer told his managers he was not happy with the outcome. The supervising Customs officer spoke to his colleague at the time but was happy the correct process was being followed. The supervising Customs officer was approached later that night by another airport police officer who had not dealt with the alert.
