IPOH: A police officer was charged at a Magistrate's Court here with assaulting a 34-year-old doctor in January at a residential area here. Khairul Nizam Ismail, 49, who holds the rank of Assistant Superintendent (ASP), pleaded not guilty to the charge read before Magistrate Nabihah Mohd Noor. Khairul was charged under Section 350 of the Penal Code, where he could be sentenced under Section 352 of the same Act, with allegedly using criminal force to cause annoyance if found guilty. He could be jailed up to three months or fined up to RM1,000 or both if convicted. Afiqah then set bail at RM2,500 with one surety and fixed Nov 5 for mention.
