I. Periyasamy (DMK) alleged in the Assembly on Friday that the State police personnel were not cooperating with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in many cases, including the murder of K.N. Speaking on the demand for grants for the Police Department, the Attur MLA said without the cooperation of the police, the CBI probe could not proceed any further. When Mr. Periyasamy pointed out that anti-alcohol activist and advocate Nandhini had been arrested in a contempt of court case only a few days before her wedding, Law Minister C.Ve. Mr. Periyasamy alleged it was only because of the State government’s “ego” that retired IPS officer A.G. Ponn Manickavel was not extended cooperation in his probe into various idol theft cases. But the Chief Minister said the number of cases registered during Mr. Manickavel’s tenure were less.
