A man who died following a police pursuit near Taupō has been named. He was Pehekino John Bennett-Te Huia, 45, of Taupō. Bennett-Te Huia was a passenger in a car that fled police shortly before crashing at Rotokawa on January 24. Police were at the scene of a fatal single-vehicle crash on Broadlands Road, Rotokawa, when the car Bennett-Te Huia was in fled through the scene, starting the pursuit. The fatal crash police were attending at the time of the pursuit occurred at 11.40pm on January 23.
