Cressida Dick, the Metropolitan police commissioner, acknowledged today that police had to “step up” their fight against terror after it emerged one of the London Bridge attackers was known to the force. Ms Dick, a former head of counterterrorism, also said police needed more information from communities and called on more people to condemn terrorist acts, after three atrocities in 10 weeks. It comes after claims that one of the trio of London Bridge terrorists, who carried out a car and pedestrian rampage on Saturday night, was twice reported to police over his extremist views.
