A decade of tension between residents and businesspeople in the adjacent market came to a boil this week when two residents damaged a truck owned by a third woman who’d parked in front of their gate to shop in the illegal market. The incident was caught on video and widely shared online. On Friday, police were managing traffic flow and ensuring there were no blocked driveways or violations of the 5-10am and 4-8pm parking ban. Thesakij officials were there to prevent anyone selling goods along the footpaths. Fewer people have been shopping at the neighbourhood markets this week, vendors said.
