Toronto police launched a hate crime investigation Tuesday after a historic city landmark in the Beach was tagged with anti-Semitic and anti-Black graffiti. Investigators received a call about the vandalism at the Leuty Lifeguard Station just after 7 a.m. Toronto police say they are investigating the incident as a hate crime. Built in 1920, the station is a symbol of the Beach neighbourhood and is at the foot of Leuty Ave. Councillor Mary-Margaret McMahon (Beaches-East York, Ward 32) called the graffiti “vile.”Article Continued Below“It’s despicable. According to Dann, the “poorly done, anti-Semitic, foul graffiti” was painted over at around noon.
