Police have no apologies for shooting demonstrators, says spokesperson

Police have no apologies for shooting demonstrators, Kenya police spokesman Charles Owino has said. The police spokesman, however, warned youth participating in both legal and unlawful protests to be extra careful and avoid threatening police. "Although police are required to use rubber bullets, among them are those equipped with live bullets and their duty is to protect their colleagues and the firearms from rogue demonstrators," he said. Speaking in his office after attending a meeting organised by the Kenya Film Classification Board on Wednesday, Owino said police acted according to the law and were only defending themselves and the firearms from demonstrators. The anti-IEBC protest on Monday left three people dead after they were allegedly shot by police.
