The incident occurred on March 25, 2026, at about 11:10 p.m., when officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters were on routine patrol duties near Kasei. According to the police, “the patrol team encountered a gang of about five-armed men who attempted to stop their unmarked vehicle using flashlights. The suspects, wielding an AK-47 rifle, single-barrel guns, machetes, and sticks, reportedly opened fire in an attempt to force the officers to halt. Police say efforts are underway to track down and arrest the remaining members of the robbery gang who escaped into the bush.
