Police deny allegations of inaction over ‘illegal cattle trade’


more-inMembers of the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) have stepped up their vigil on the entry and exit of cattle in the city as the festive season approaches. They also reported four sheds in various parts of the city that were housing 2,000 heads of cattle and camels. “Despite providing evidence, the city police is not taking any action,” allege AWBI members. AWBI officer Shivani Sharma said that initially the police were cooperative and helped them register FIRs. Alleging an increase in illegal cattle trade and slaughter, Ms. Sharma said that the AWBI will be taking up the issue with the authorities concerned.
