Police caught Jo Pert's killer with a weapon the day before her death - but let him goDavid White Tevita Mafi Filo in the Auckland High Court dock. The man who killed Jo Pert as she jogged through Remuera had been caught just hours before, stalking a couple with a knife - but police let him go free. It can now be revealed that all of the charges were related to Filo stalking various other women throughout Auckland, including indecently assaulting two of them. Filo was said to be covered in blood at the time and the woman told police Filo "didn't look right", "looked out of it" and "mentally unstable". The court was told Filo suffered a bacterial infection when he was a child and that illness later developed into renal failure.
