Police block ‘March for Justice’ programme at Dhaka University, scuffle with protesters

The students gathered at Dhaka University's Doel Square around 12:30pm on Wednesday and started the protest. Accompanying them were teachers from various departments including the Sada Dal, the pro-BNP teachers' organisation, who marched from Curzon Hall. At one point, when they tried to go towards the High Court, the police barricaded them in front of the Shishu Academy. At that time, when the police attempted to forcibly detain a student, Dhaka University's Department of Public Administration Professor Nusrat Jahan Chowdhury and Lecturer Shehreen Amin Bhuiyan attempted to stop them. Eyewitnesses said that when the two students were picked up in the car at the High Court junction, the lawyers of the High Court surrounded the prison van from the front and demanded that the students be released.
