Police believe teenager from Maryland killed in District

A person found brutally slain last weekend in the woods on the banks of the Potomac River is believed to be a 16-year-old high school freshman from Maryland, according to police. The principal of Tuscarora High School in Frederick County, Md., sent a letter to parents saying that Eberson Guerra Sanchez, a ninth-grader, had been found dead in the District and that police were investigating. Frederick is about 50 miles northwest of the District on Interstate 270. There are street crews affiliated with gangs that operate in the District and several gangs are active in the Washington suburbs. The principal of Tuscarora High School, Christopher S. Berry, declined to comment beyond his letter to parents.
