A Toronto man wanted by police for a year for allegedly making Instagram death threats against residents of Regent Park has been arrested and faces 18 new firearm and attempt murder charges relating to a downtown shooting. Rowan Atkins, 32, was recently arrested in a car along with two other men, Toronto police said in a news release Thursday. Last August, Toronto police issued an arrest warrant for Atkins after he allegedly used his Instagram account to post a threat that invited people to “shoot everyone in Regent Park.”“His followers include gang members who have been antagonistic to the Regent Park community,” Toronto police said at the time. Evidence presented in court cases suggests Project Originals have a long and violent rivalry with Regent Park gangs. Mendez and Gayle-Johnson face multiple firearm charges but none that appear to relate to the December shooting.
