Police Respond to Stabbings at Market, Pedestrians Hit on London Bridge

Eyewitnesses at Borough Market reported panic in the open-air farmer’s market and at restaurants nearby, followed by a torrent of gunshots. At one restaurant, diners saw men wearing what looked like belts with black canisters attached approach the business before moving on elsewhere. London’s Metropolitan Police reported shots had been fired at Borough Market, according to its official Twitter account. Mr. Applebee said each appeared to be wearing a belt with black canisters around their upper torsos and appeared to be of South Asian descent. “They looked to come in, and for some reason turned to carry on down the street,” Mr. Applebee said.
