State police say a south Louisiana sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man who came at him with a knife after a standoff. David says that, according to the sheriff's office, Labit had stabbed two people earlier at another home. David did not release the Iberia Parish sheriff's deputy's name. He says the suspect was 40-year-old Shannon Labit (lah-BEE) of New Iberia. Master Trooper Brooks David (DAH-veed) says the shooting occurred about 1:30 a.m. Sunday in New Iberia, which is about 115 miles west of New Orleans.
