The National Police Service (NPS), on Saturday, April 22, warned motorists to approach Mombasa Road with caution. Traffic marshalls warned that the road had flooded along Sultan Hamud Township, following heavy rains across the country. The floods at Sultan Hamud town in Makueni County affected businesses, especially, transportation which is the main economic activity in the area. Sultan Hamud also lies on the main railway line of Kenya Railways between the coast at Mombasa and the national capital of Nairobi. On Thursday, 13 April 2023, the Kenya Red Cross warned that motorists were drivers plying Mombasa Road were likely to experience serious flooding.
