Poland has accused the EU of “cheating” and announced a “negative” policy towards Brussels after losing a diplomatic campaign to oust its own former prime minister as European council president. “It turned out that EU policy is one of double standards and cheating”, said foreign minister Witold Waszczykowski in the weekend edition of the Super Express newspaper. Waszczykowski was referring to last week’s clash at a Brussels summit of EU leaders when Poland cast the sole vote against Tusk’s re-election. And that for Donald Tusk, it was going to be a simple majority vote?” he said. The Hungarian prime minister, Viktor Orban, who had initially supported the Polish stance, ended up siding with the rest of the EU, leaving Szydlo out in the cold.
