The Stardust reward is gone, but you now earn 20 Stardust every time you feed an allied Pokémon a berry. In short, the gym reward system is screwed up and in need of fixing. Say you have three Pokémon in three gyms that have each earned 50 coins. But if all three are kicked out today, you only get 50 coins, and the other 100 are lost completely.
