Newcastle United took another almighty step towards Champions League qualification with a 3-1 win over Premier League strugglers Southampton. Brighton can finish on a maximum of 73 points, but they're yet to face the Magpies at St. James' Park. If Howe's men were to beat Brighton, the Toon would need just 72 points to secure their place in the top-four beyond any doubt. A win for the Red Devils would mean the Gulls can finish on a maximum of 70 points, prior to visiting Tyneside. The average points total needed to finish in the top-four in the top-four has been 71 points, just six away from Newcastle's current tally.
