Plea challenging Talwars' acquittal admitted in Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Monday admitted an appeal filed by Khumkala Banjade, widow of Hemraj, who was killed along with Aarushi Talwar in the 2008 twin murders in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. In December 2017, Banjade had challenged the high court acquittal of dentist couple Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, who were convicted by the trial court for the murders. Earlier this month, the Central Bureau of Investigation too had moved the top court challenging the clean chit given to the Talwars in connection with the murder of 14-year-old Aarushi and the domestic help Hemraj. Acquitting the couple in October 2017, the Allahabad High Court had held that the trial court judge had acted like a "film director" and had "prejudged things" and had "tried to thrust coherence amongst facts inalienably scattered here and there but not giving any coherence to the idea as to what in fact happened". The HC had also observed that the witnesses in the case had been coached.
