Momtazuddin passed on at 3:48pm, said Sammilita Sangskritik Jote President Golam Kuddus. Kuddus said Momtazuddin’s body was taken to the Azad Mosque at Gulshan for a bathe from the hospital. Born in Chapainawabganj on Jan 18, 1935, Momtazuddin became one of the pioneering thespians to have contributed to the Bengali culture. Momtazuddin taught Bengali, Sanskrit and European drama at several non-government and government colleges for over 32 years. As the recognition of his outstanding contribution to the field of theatre and literature, Momtazuddin received Bangla Academy Award in 1976 and Ekushey Padak in 1997.
