New research published in the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism (IJSNEM) says more than 25 per cent of 517 union and league players surveyed use or have used CBD oil as an alternative therapy to painkillers or sleeping pills despite many clubs advising against its use. The paper states that “many players are ignoring this advice in an attempt to improve sleep and pain management”, adding that its use is especially popular among players in the latter stages of their career.
