It seems like the new NHL season just started yesterday, but it was in fact three weeks ago and the Edmonton Oilers are already ten games in. Early results from Dave Tippett are equally rosy: same 7-2-1 record, better goal differential, worse shot results, similar optimism. Also worth noting that the Oilers’ one successful team during the decade also started out 7-2-1, a promising if preliminary sign. In large part that is due to better goal support, as the Oil have scored 16 goals in his 4 games. Last year Toby Rieder played 67 games and managed 92 shots, and we all know how many goals he scored.
