Villanova enters the 2017 NCAA Tournament as defending national champion. After a fourth consecutive Big East regular season championship and winning the Big East Tournament championship for the second time in three years. Digging deeper, the seven rotation players for Villanova include just one player rated as 90 on ESPN Recruiting metric on a 99 point scale (again Brunson). Even National Player of the Year candidate Josh Hart carried a grade of just 82 and was ranked the 18th best player at his position as a high school senior. While other elite programs - think Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina and UCLA - build and re-load with top prospects, Villanova's keys to success seem to be player development and continuity.
