Plateau United on Wednesday blamed defensive errors for their 4-0 pounding by USM Alger in their second-leg CAF Confederation Cup fixture at Stade 5 Juliet 1962 in Algiers on Tuesday. The Nigerian champions were bundled out of the competition by the Algerians 5-2 on aggregate. Plateau won the first leg in Lagos 2-1. Spokesman for the Jos club Albert Dakup told the News Agency of Nigeria that the team paid dearly for its defensive lapses. “Our defenders let us down, they were not cautious enough to curtail the rampaging USM Algiers strikers,’’ Dakup said.
