All stores in Scotland already charge 10p for single use bags, while Wales and Northern Ireland retailers charge 5p. It comes as Morrisons became the first supermarket to completely remove plastic carrier bags from stores. Sainsbury's and Asda have both removed free plastic bags for fruit and veg in stores, and Tesco has axed plastic bags for online shopping deliveries – it now uses green crates instead. The 5p bag charge has been hugely successful, but we can go further.
