Plans to build new hospitals 'fast-tracked' in hopes of restarting economy after lockdown

Under existing plans, six NHS trusts will be given £2.7 billion to develop new hospitals by 2025. It comes as an Opinium poll suggests that just under half of the UK public disapprove of the Government's handling of the coronavirus crisis. The coronavirus death toll in the UK rose today by 204 to 40,465 - including in hospitals, care homes and the community. A further 75 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died in England’s hospitals, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths to 27,359. The UK’s total coronavirus death toll yesterday increased by 357 as the country’s total number of fatalities soared past 40,000.
