Plans Approved for Marriott Hotel in Pine Bluff

Plans to replace the former Plaza Hotel with a new Marriott franchise have recently been approved by the Pine Bluff Hotel Public Facilities Board, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported. The hotel was purchased by the Pine Bluff Urban Renewal Agency in 2019, with the initial decision to sell it to Marriott announced in November 2022. The Pine Bluff Convention Center directly adjacent to the hotel will also undergo renovations in hopes of attracting more events. The 200-room Plaza Hotel is to be demolished, with the new hotel currently planned to have 125 rooms and a bistro. The estimated cost of the project is approximately $24.1 million, with about $3 million being funded by the Go Forward Pine Bluff tax.
