As Bangladesh’s energy demand rises -- driven by industrial growth, urbanization, and digitization -- our power sector must be guided not by short-term fixes, but by consistent and transparent regulations. Electricity is undoubtedly the backbone of economic activity and daily life, and Bangladesh is especially in need of energy sources that are dependable, sustainable, and cost-effective. An independent regulatory body, working alongside the government and international organizations, can therefore help address these challenges by anticipating demand, balancing supply with efficiency, and encouraging investment in environmentally-friendly energy sources. Such an institution could also strengthen long-term energy planning by aligning national goals with emerging global sustainability standards. With clearer rules and stronger management, the power sector can become more resilient and reliable.
