Plane skids off Kathmandu airport runway, operations halted for 12 hours


The airport in the Nepal capital resumed its normal operations on Sunday morning after a Yeti Airlines aircraft skidded off its runway, The Kathmandu Post reported. The aircraft with registration mark 9N-AHW was carrying 21 passengers and three crew members from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu when it skidded off the runway on Saturday night. The lone international airport of the country, surrounded by hills, is known for difficulties to land and take off. A US-Bangla Airlines plane from Dhaka crashed near the runway during landing at the airport on Mar 12, killing 51 passengers and crew members. On Apr 19, a Malaysia-based Malindo Air plane skidded off the only runway with 139 people on board.
