A plan to equip Canadian soldiers with new technology to communicate on the battlefield is facing delays because some of the equipment selected has become obsolete. Obsolescence was one, the DND warned in the May 2015 document obtained by Postmedia. Officials with the Ottawa-based General Dynamics Mission Systems Canada had argued against the DND strategy to purchase such equipment based on military radio technology. The contract for the gear, potentially worth up to $250 million, was awarded to Rheinmetall Canada of Quebec last summer. Once the system is declared acceptable, Canada is planning to proceed with the production of the equipment, Koronewski said.
