Sales figures for the iPhone 7 suggest that Apple hasn't suffered much for dropping the headphone jack. Well, some people say it's easier to waterproof a phone without a headphone jack. Likewise, the HTC Bolt is water resistant too, and possibly the headphone jack removal helped with that. This is done by measuring the way sound is reflected in you ear canal and using that data to tweak the EQ levels.
