Truth be told, Cars 3 is probably going to do well here and abroad. Yeah, Universal has Despicable Me 3 in two weeks, but Pixar/Disney and Illumination have always done well side-by-side. More valuable for the franchise, and for Pixar itself, is the swell of initially relatively positive reviews. A deal is made: One more race, and if McQueen loses he agrees to retire before he further damages his own brand. The film is, by default, the best Cars movie yet and it ends in a place where one might not even mind a Cars 4.
