A pipe bomb exploded in a Jersey Shore town on Saturday, shortly before thousands of runners were due to participate in a charity 5km race to benefit US Marines and sailors, authorities said. No injuries were reported in the blast in Seaside Park around 9.30am, said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County prosecutor’s office. The third annual Semper Five run, named for the US Marines motto “semper fidelis”, “always loyal”, was canceled and the immediate area was put on lockdown. The pipe bomb was in a plastic garbage can when it exploded, Della Fave said. “What the intentions of the individual, we don’t know yet, whether it was criminal or terroristic,” Della Fave told CNN.
