Apex and Fortnite are different games, but Apex brought a lot to the table that is clearly good for the genre. The first thing Fortnite has copied is a slimmed down version of Apex’s ping system. Apex’s pings still have more overall options, but Fortnite took the essentials that make squad play without a mic much, much easier. So far, those are the only two things Fortnite seems to have scooped up from Apex, and I wouldn’t expect hill sliding or class abilities any time soon. Still, it’s rather fascinating to see Fortnite grab stuff from its suddenly-scary rival so quickly and so obviously, not that I blame them.
