Pilots’ retention move to bring stability


more-inThe Centre defended its proposal to double the notice period from six months for pilots quitting their jobs and said it would bring stability to the market. “Globally, there has been a situation where pilots have been difficult to retain for companies,” Minister of State Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha told The Hindu. In case of co-pilots, the notice period will remain six months after quitting their jobs. The FIA, which represents IndiGo, SpiceJet, Jet Airways and GoAir, had said that airlines are resorting to hire foreign pilots, whose cost of hiring is four times more than Indian pilots, as a result of shortage of trained pilots. Aviation experts said the Centre was not addressing the core issue of training pilots.
